Hi Sue

I've done a bit of a search on the internet and can find no specific references to heavy metal contamination and basa (tra or any of the other names the basa type species go by).

What I have found though (and I've written about it on other pages on the website) is references to various countries trying to discredit the Vietnamese and their farming methods.

A small piece here about basa fish and the farming methods.

Basa is farmed by the Vietnamese on the Mekong Delta - I'll be brief here - and US and other countries were putting about that they were being farmed filthy conditions - well, there were visits and they found that they weren't in filthy conditions.

In blind tastings, people have preferred the taste of basa to US catfish and it's a lot cheaper - hence all the fallout about the labelling of it.

If you can remember where you heard about the metal, I'd be pleased to know - as you say, it tastes great!
